Working Group 2 (WG2) advances data analytics and prediction engines that unlock the full potential of ocean data through predictive modelling, emulation, and AI/ML – enabling users to create, manipulate, and analyse marine information, as well as to explore “what-if” scenarios. Robust “what‑if” scenario suites and high‑resolution coastal model setups shall support climate adaptation, marine spatial planning, and ecosystem‑based decision‑making.
WG2 defines key decision-use cases, harmonized data and model standards (e.g. FAIR data, NetCDF/CF conventions, controlled vocabularies), and rigorous validation and quality-control strategies so that outputs are scientifically credible and operationally relevant. Identification of opportunities for joint activities, coordinated testing, and international pilot efforts shall accelerate global progress in developing and applying Digital Twins of the Ocean.
