DTOs in practice
Through extensive observation and analysis of model data, we generate the knowledge that drives progress forward
The DITTO mission
The DITTO programme aims to support ocean protection, governance, and a sustainable Blue Economy through the use of Digital Twins of the Ocean (DTOs). It seeks to develop a common understanding of DTOs, establish best practices, and create a digital framework to empower ocean professionals worldwide.
Digital Twins will enable users to address "What if" questions based on shared data, models, and knowledge, empowering ocean professionals, citizen scientists, policymakers, and the general public to explore ocean knowledge, data, models, and forecasts.
What's a digital twin?
A digital twin is a virtual copy of a physical object or system that uses real-time data to monitor and simulate behaviour. It has various applications in manufacturing, healthcare, and transportation. By identifying and addressing issues before they occur, digital twins can improve overall performance and optimise processes. The use of digital twins has the potential to revolutionise how organisations operate and innovate.
